Review

This review applies to version 1.0 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

LogonStudio Vista is an interesting application designed to modify the look of Windows Vista logon screen, previous versions of this application (called just LogonStudio o LogonStudio XP) modified windows NT ntoskrnl, a file required to start Windows and that was often updated on service packs; therefore a operating system risk was present.

Without LogonStudio Vista, editing or replacing Vista logonscreen wasnt impossible but is not easy, the process requires modify system files and registry entries that could degrade Windows or couldnt be possible due to User Account Control restrictions.

Since Vista works different than XP, so LogonStudio does, the result is no operating system damage after updating to another Vista version, servicepack
or installing your new logonscreen.

The application also allows you to create, edit and upload your own logonscreens using bitmaps (jpg, bmp, etc) or solid background colors, however there are some limitations compared with XP version, this one doesnt allow you to move User Picture, Password Fields or buttons from the default position (center).
Advantages
  • Easy to use
  • Compatible with all Vista versions, even SP1.
  • Format supported by a big community
Disadvantages
  • Poor Customization options to create logon screen.
